These work great for SBC & BBC Blocks.

Use to replace the stock plugs on 1955 up SBC, 65 up BBC engine blocks.

Old water drain plugs which have never been removed can get rusted in place.

Savvy machine shops will remove the stock plugs then unplug the water jackets during their block tanking procedure.

This is done so the blocks coolant can be drained before pulling the heads off.

Anyone who has done a head change with the engine in the vehicle knows the block should be drained or water/coolant will leak into the cylinders when the heads are removed.

Seriously, you don't want water or coolant sitting around the ring package.

If your seasoned block still has the stock Hex OD plugs, you'll find they don't unscrew easily.

Its quite common for the OD hex to strip out while trying to loosen the plugs, especially with the engine in the car/truck.

If the block is out of the vehicle, use a 6 point socket to remove them both.

Underneath, there is usually a lot of hard rusted crude blocking the hole which needs to be cleared before the block will drain.

During a rebuild, its wise to have the two water drain plugs removed and the holes cleared of blockage, then new square drive plugs installed.

With the right socket or wrench, these square drive plugs are easier to remove than hex drive plugs, especially allen type plugs.

We do not recommend using common allen hex plugs in this location as access can be limited and once those get stripped out, it's very hard to get them out.

These square drive plugs make it much easier to remove with the engine in or out of the vehicle.

Even if you damage a square drive plug, it can still be grabbed with those trusty vise grips from your tool box.
